No offense but I just saw the YJ trailer and, predictably, the thing I’m the most emotional about is Conner calling Dick by his name after he wouldn’t so much as take his sunglasses off around the others in s1
This season is about metas. Only humans/earthlings have the metagene. Conner is part human…. What I’m saying is Conner could unlock his tactile telekinesis, and be able to fly and use force blasts.
It’s not even about shipping. It’s about the fact that if someone’s best friend – someone they’ve known since they were nine, someone they broke their father figures rules for, someone they shared their deepest secrets with, someone they fought alongside, someone who for years was the only person who knew about both sides of their life – dies then it’s going to cripple them.
We saw in season two the way Dick was with Tim, and we were shown that those reactions were caused because of Jason. We saw what he was pushed to do, despite saying in season one that it was everything he never wanted to do or be, because of the death of his brother and another member of the team (Tula).
Unlike Jason and Tula, we’ve seen on screen Dick’s friendship with Wally. What their relationship was like. Given that we’ve seen Dick react to death, and have him clearly struggle with that I do have hopes that we’re going to see him struggling with the aftermath of Wally’s death.
The show hasn’t backed away from Dick’s reactions to death, and we’ve seen him struggle throughout the series (the guilt and trauma he went through in season one where he felt he had lead the entire team to their deaths, and consequently swore off ever taking on that kind of role again. And then what happened with Jason and Tula, and his changes to do whatever he could to try and prevent more death.) You can’t convince me that Dick’s entire reasoning behind everything in season two was anything other than him trying to prevent another loss.
But we’re now in new territory. Wally and Dick were Wally and Dick, best friends who we’ve seen interact and we watched their relationship grow. There was also, very obviously, a strain in their friendship come the end of season two. Not only did Dick loose his best friend. He lost his best friend without their issues being resolved.
I trust they’ll do right by us. I’m just so used to being let down by shows that I’m scared they’ll glaze over it – that Artemis will be the focus of the ‘missing Wally’ parts of the show.
They need to show a best friend being torn up about loosing his best friend under strained circumstances. I think that kind of representation (especially it being a guy) is hella fucking important.
Guys can cry over their best friends dying, YJ better fucking give us him missing Wally.
